What's with all the girls who tan, or fake tan their faces orange in the winter? It's ugly, and looks like they've painted their faces, besides not looking natural whatsoever. It's bad enough in the summer, but in the winter, it's just so obvious.

And walking around the university, one is hard pressed to see a female with what looks like her natural hair colour. One can only come to the conclusion that female society at large is not happy with what the gods gave them.

I can see some people not being happy, but all? I commend anyone who does have their natural hair colour.

Though, one other thing I've noticed on campus, regarding both genders; fat people don't seem to go to university. Seriously, I mean, there might be some chubby people, but no one I'd consider obese. I wonder why. Is it because university students can hardly feed themselves with the student fees, or are healthier people more likely to pursue further education? I don't know, I just couldn't help noticing and wondering.

"God gives you one face and you paint yourselves another"?

Not a good sign when one can quote a mysoginistic rant in reference to society in general.

And regarding the lack of visible obesity wandering around university campuses, obesity on the level you're describing doesn't lend itself to much moving. Concurrently, it doesn't lend itself well to puclic appearances in general.

there are a lot of larger people at the university

but it's actually very codified there that if you aren't pretty you generally avoid showing your face whenever possible

i was almost never on campus. and when i was, i hid. i had no friends and i avoided everyone. i spent all my time with my then-boyfriend, who was thin, but who loved me anyway.

so yeah, you only see the thin people because the fat people aren't able to paint a face that the thin people find pretty. so they hide where the thin people won't make them feel like shit. check the computer labs at 4am - that's where i used to hide :)

First of all, I don't know your BMI, but I don't consider you heavy enough to fall within the category of people of whom I was referring.

And I'm mostly looking during class at people, for this, and it's harder to hide there, I'm sure. And what I see is disproportionate to the number of such people I see for example, at the mall, or when I was in high school.

re: bmi... i am actually, i just wear clothes to hide it - it's good to know i've been moderately successful in that

i have several friends with really bad mental/emotional & weight issues and the combination is really deadly and is brutal to try to control or make any headway through in a university environment

one of the many reasons i gave up on my master's degree was that going to school (an environment that felt antagonistic due to multiple reasons, my weight being one of them) while living at home (an environment that was excessively antagonistic) was literally driving me insane

the fact that most larger people literally can not fit in the desks with the little fixed writing surface thingies (dunno what they're called but those desks are not easy to get in and out of even when you're thin - and all but one of my clases in first year was in a room where they were the only option unless you were in a wheelchair) has always been one of the most blatant ways larger people are made to feel unwelcome at the u of m - the u of w is a little better but not much

a lot of larger people are so marginalized they only attend night classes (which are also often smaller and therefore more likely to be held in seminar rooms rather than the ones with the fixed desks)

hmm, lots of things I never thought of.

Though you never struck me as someone who would run into those problems. I suppose when I met you, it was never a thing that stood out. Some heavy people tend to be loud mouthed and obnoxious, and I feel uncomfortable around them because they seem like they feel they need to overcompensate for their lack of perfection, (the "yeah, I'm fat, you got a problem with it?" attitude.) But I never got that impression from you.

When I think of you, I think of you're writing interests and skill, and dancing goth night, and discussing gaming, and stuff like that. Oh, and your gorgeous hair.

there's truly loud and obnoxious, and there's having a loud and obnoxious face that you put on when you need strength due to being antagonized (or perceiving you are antagonized)

i know several people who have a loud and obnoxious face that they will often show to others in order to avoid being hurt but they aren't really like that and

then there's others who just are 100% loud and obnoxious with no regard for other people and an excessive focus on themselves - they exist regardless of body type but since the behavior is often symptom of low self esteem it will frequently appear in someone with a larger body type.

low self esteem is not an excuse for poor behavior - i find most people who are loud and obnoxious are merely participating in a form of social bullying and while it is true they may be doing it because they were bullied in the past, that makes it all the more reprehensible because they know exactly what it feels like and they are still doing it

we should go dancing at goth night again - i'm planning on going this saturday after the concert but i don't know for sure if we are going or when we'll get there or who is driving or... really anything at all

i would like to go to goth night with you more though - and get you to teach me guitar :)

I get off work at midnight, tomorrow, I should be home about 12:30. I gave you my cell # previously, I know, so if you're going, let me know when this concert's over.

Far as guitar, I can't remember what your schedule is, but the next time I'll be free is next thursday after 5:30.

Well, with BMI and your university, I haven't been there so I can't really comment. In American universities, at least the ones I've been to, obesity was easier to see than you seem to have experienced. But then I think it's likely that obesity is more widespread in America than in Canada (it's an assumption, since everyone seems to see America as the obesity capital of the world).

Regarding women (and a growing number of men) who fake & bake during the winter, I'm as put off by it as you are. What drives me nuts though, and I know it's an absurd thing, is eyebrows that get plucked nearly out of existence...makes me think of the clown from McDonald's every time I see it. Maybe it's a Generation X thing, I'm not sure why it bothers me as much as it does.
