Things To Do before 12:01 nov 1st:

-Study for french test tomorrow
-Finish lab report due on wednesday
-Get at least a rough draft of the essay due on nov 21st written, so it doesn't interfere too much with writing
-Type out my changes to chapter seven so I can send chapter 18 to people.
-Write a breif summary of most scenes planned so far in nanowrimo story.

Now, those are in order of importance. I expect they will be done in reverse order, as usual. Nothing like homework to be done to get me working on writing.

I'm getting revved up for Nano, though. The story is coming together in my mind. Canada votes in the NDP and the NDP rip up NAFTA. The USA is screwed for natural resources and invades. Story revolves around a Mother and her children (12 and 17) and her increasing involvement in the resistance. I thought of putting a dog in the story, but I realized if I put a dog in, it would just die.

Sounds like an interesting story. When does it take place?

*clicks on profile to figure out who you are - aha* (don't worry, if I fussed about that, I'd frends-lock it. When I'm a famous writer I may have to friends lock some posts, so some raving fan doesn't go tell my mom all the nasty things I've written about her:P.)

It would take place within ten years of present, in my hometown.

I glanced at your LJ, looks like you're doing Nanowrimo too. do you want to add me as a budy? I always find competition helps me. Your story sounds interesting too. I like the idea of a sentient species with that diverse a life cycle; though I wonder about calling the final stage plant-like; are you going to go into how the chloroplasts come to be present in the cells? I suppose they could be dormant in the early life stages. (biochemistry student, sorry.)

I've already friended you, actually. :-) Feel free to friend me back if you want.

My NaNo effort last year (which stalled out around 10K) was also set in my hometown (Kansas City) in the future, but more distant, after a massive plague had wiped out a large portion of humanity and resulted in national governments collapsing. By the time of the story, there were some large-scale governments becoming re-established.

I'm a little unclear on how their lifecycle works so far. They may chloroplasts continuously, maybe even photosynthesizing constantly, but during the "animal" phase, photosynthesis alone doesn't suffice (hmm ... maybe they should be nocturnal, with the daytime being a period of rest and photosynthesizing ... I suspect they'd still need external sources of energy, though, if they're mobile) The exact details of the biology aren't really important for my purposes, though. :-)

Where in Canada do you live? The idea of the US invading Canada seems a bit implausible, I must say.

oh, I meant buddy on the nanowrimo website. do you have a username there? Mine is lindenfoxcub.

I live in winnipeg, manitoba, so on the prairies, but a couple of hours from the canadian shield.

Also, since you seem to be interested in sci fi, have you ever got into any critiquing groups? There's a rather good one online that I'm on, that's specific to sci-fi, fantasy and horror. It's about $50-$60 a year, which is really good for what you get out of it, when you consider some workshops cost hundreds for a couple of days of excercises. let me know if you're interested; not sure how serious you are about writing; these guys are fairly serious, and they'll give you honest opinions about your work.

Oh, cool. I used to know someone who lived in Winnipeg. I lost contact with him years ago, though.

I don't know if that group would be right for me at the present time. I'm trying to get back into writing though, so maybe at some point. :-)
