Not sure what to title this one...
Jun. 11th, 2007 11:34 pmNathan missed a call this morning from his brother, Aaron, who left a message to call him back, that it was important. Nathan called him back, Aaron says their Dad is in the hospital, and that he should come right away. Aaron was driving their mom there now, and he came to pick us up afterward. We got to the hospital and the nurse pointed us to a waiting room where Nathan's Mom was waiting. He's gone, she whispers.
Just like that. It was surreal, and I can only imagine what it must be like for Nathan and his Mom and Aaron. There was no warning, he was fine one day, and Aaron says he just happened to be woken up by his dad's gasping for breath and called the ambulance. Everyone's very much in shock right now.
I hung out with the family for the day; I hope it helped. I called my dad; wasn't sure quite why I felt the need to, it's not like our dads knew one another well. Made the excuse that it might affect whether we went on vacation and needed his van or not. Nathan said, no, I get it Linds. You want to hear his voice to know that he's ok. I thought about it a second and realised he's right. It's irrational, but human needs are not always rational.
